5 Tips for Your Next Job Interview

  1. Preparation is key. Do your homework. Get as much information as you can on the company. An easy place to start is their website. It should tell you everything about who they are and what they do. It will also give you some insight into their values. Knowing your stuff can give you the edge you need to land the job!
  2. Appearances are not everything but when it comes to interviews, they certainly matter. Make sure to dress appropriately and professionally. Even if the company has a casual dress code, you still want to make a positive, lasting impression. If you are unsure, when setting up the interview ask what appropriate dress would be.
  3. Be yourself, sometimes people try to overdo it and end up coming off annoying and not genuine. Know your strengths and play to them. Be confident and talk yourself up! It’s okay! I know it sounds “cringey” but practice in your mirror or an audience at home. Your dog will think you nailed it! You will get more comfortable the more you practice and tweak your pitch.
  4. Be on time. There is nothing that will hurt your chances more than being late to an interview. You need to show you that you value the opportunity and arrive promptly. Map out how long it’ll take you to get there, then add some time in case something out of your control pops up.
  5. The interview is a two way street. Remember it isn’t just about you trying to get a job offer, it is about both parties seeing if the position is a good fit for both. Ask questions. It will show you are interested but will also help you glean valuable information about their culture.
